There are many
benefits of using carpets as flooring material in living rooms,
bedrooms, and children’s play room. But spills and every day
traffic takes its toll on carpets, making them look dirty and
unhygienic. If you want your favorite and expensive carpet to look
good for years, following these DIY carpet cleaning tips.
- Vacuum your carpet regularly to prevent dirt and dust from damaging the carpet fibers.
- Vacuum slowly to get out as much dirt as possible. Slow passes help remove dirt more effectively than several fast passes.
- Wash your carpet once in a year. If the carpet is in children’s room or in the living area, wash it two or three times in a year to get rid of dirt and dust and stains.
- Colorfast carpets do not fade or bleed when you wash them. But to ensure that your expensive carpet doesn’t fade or bleed, test it for colorfastness before washing it.
- Mix a few drops of detergent in hot water and spray it lightly on the dirty areas on the carpet. This helps loosen the dirt particles.
- Get a good carpet cleaning system to clean your carpets easily and effectively. If you have light colored carpets and small children and pets at home, you can save a lot of money by cleaning your carpet on your own than hiring a professional several times in a year.
- When washing, do not over-wet the carpet. Most carpet cleaning machines put a lot of moisture into the carpet. Make one pass with the soap and water solution and one with the neutralizing rinse solution. Make 2-3 drying passes with the water off.
- Let your carpet dry thoroughly. Put the carpet out or open the windows, put on the dehumidifiers or AC to remove excess moisture from the air and to dry your carpet properly.
Hire professional
carpet cleaners once in a while. They are expert in their job and can
make your carpet look like a brand-new one.
